+ Kaffini’s Kafe, Jamestown, NC
Ken and Kathi Review: Kaffini's Kafe - Jamestown, NC
The greatest little coffee shop in the Triad (I used to say "in town" but now that I know they have free wi-fi, I've amended it!).
Kaffini's is the best-kept secret in Jamestown. I wandered in here one day while I was waiting to pick up one of the kids from a function, and was instantly transported into another world.
Despite the greenish walls and bright red furniture, there's a pervasive element of calm here.
The blonde gal behind the counter is about the friendliest barista I've ever met - she'll take one look at you and make a guess of what you'd love to drink - and she's seldom wrong. She makes the best iced coffee I've ever had.
Not only does Kaffini's offer the usual coffee-bar fare, they have everything from specialty smoothies, tazo teas, juices and cokes, and I'm told that their white-chocolate mocha is to die for. They have ice cream for the kiddies and pastries for the adults. Plus they've got a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast offerings include sandwiches, wraps, danishes and bagels. Lunch and dinner include panini, baguettes, wraps, quesadillas, and salads. There's generally a
lunch special which includes sandwich, drink and cookie for around 6.00.
I guess it's the atmosphere that brings me back more than anything else. The "background music" is 90's rock, played at the sort of volume that blends into the background. The space is clean and it's just a good place to kick back and relax - or hook up the laptop and work. There's lots of tables, and a few comfy chairs in the middle for congregatin' in. They even thought of the kids in this place - there's a play area set up in the corner, with toys, trains, and a TV set up with kids movies. How wonderful!
I just found out that on Saturday nights they've got some sort of open-mike night - jazz, blues, bluegrass, you name it - starting at 6pm. I can't check it out tonight as I've got other plans, but I will sometime!
Accessibility gets an "A" here - uncluttered, easy to get through. I sometimes have to move a chair or two out of the way but it's generally not a problem. (and if I needed help to get something moved, I'd have it - probably without asking!) Allergies - well, in coffee shops, there's generally not a dedicated nut-free blender, and she was up-front about that, which I
appreciated (I've actually had shops obfuscate about this issue - dangerous!!) But not here! She helped me select a safe drink, and remembered me the second time I came in. I like that!
Please do come and check this place out - it's my office away from home, when I'm in Jamestown. You might see me there, tapping stuff out on the ExWitch laptop…
