Church Change Post #4
Backing up just a little bit.
For a few months now, Ken and I have been sensing that it was a bit BEYOND God’s timing for us to get involved in our community (as
opposed to “in Greensboro”) and had chided ourselves… we live in a SMALL community… about 1400 people. It’s wrong, wrong, wrong to live
here and not LIVE here. And so we had begun praying for avenues into the community. Had started intentionally shopping here, we
opened a small business down in Randleman, had begun eating at some of the little restaurants instead of driving up to the city… we’re finally getting to really know people.
We even went to a community meeting last night (at the behest of our new pastor), and Ken’s been elected to the town council that’s forming until we hold elections.
I guess it shouldn’t have surprised us when God called us to go to LCAG!!!!
The speed of it all is a bit daunting, though…
So far almost all of the feedback we’ve gotten from our friends has been positive; ranging from one person saying, “Welcome to your new church” to another on the
phone stressing that he felt it was a matter of outright obedience … which at that point we were feeling too… but it sure was nice to get that external confirmation. In fact, we got SO MUCH external confirmation on this, it was shocking. I’ve never prayed about something and had God speak forth like that!
However, one
of our most trusted friends has said that as soon as I told her and asked for prayer, she immediately had a visceral reaction that
she equates with discernment (she apparently gets that “funny feeling” whenever God’s telling her something). So I called her up for coffee and we talked at length about it. Told her the whole story from
beginning to end, including what happened Sunday (which I’ll write about in a sec). She says that at first she interpreted this reaction as
“K+K, you are NOT to go”, but as she prayed over a few days, the Lord showed her that if we did go, we would encounter a very severe
obstacle there - which did not necessarily mean that we’re not to go.
For right now I’m going to leave the mountain out of my blog - It may be that God’s already taken care of it; we did have a rocky start because of some things but He’s pulled us through. If that was just a small hill and there’s more to come then I trust He’ll take care of that, and I’ll write about it all when it’s done and over with. ![]()
When I first wrote this series of posts, I had my tithe checks for Calvary for September already made out. I pulled them out that
morning and looked at them, and was wondering … “hmmm. Do I need to re-do these because we won’t be there?” That was a tough moment, I tell you… We ended up mailing the mid-month check to Calvary because our membership was still there, and bringing our next to LCAG. As of today (9/22/06) I’m not sure where our church membership is, officially. Pastor Danny was supposed to call Pastor David to facilitate the transfer, but I’m not sure if all of the machinations have taken place yet. (grins - I’m going to go and pester the Pastor about it, in a little while)
That’s a bit of an uncomfortable feeling in a way, but God’s got it.
