What part of “Go” do you not understand?
Saw this on Gilbert and Virginia Contreras’ blog this morning, and it got me thinking.
Lazarus Chakwera, from Malawi stated, “What part of ‘Go’ do you not understand. (speaking of Mathew 28:18-20) stop analyzing it and just obeyâ€
Why is it that the church has lost sight of the Great Commission? And I’m not referring to “the corporate body that meets in a building, as if some responsibility could or should be put on the “group” - The responsibility rests with individual followers of Christ. Jesus did not give the command, “The church shall go”… He said, “Go.” as in, YOU go. And so the disciples did. If we’re disciples, we must too. Time is short and hell is real and God is worthy of the worship of all people.
And here is that passage, in context:
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

quite true Kathi. we are indeed commanded to go, and need to obey.
