Smoke from fires reaches North Carolina
Ken called me a little while ago, asking me if I could smell smoke here at the house.
“Odd question,” I thought… considering he’s all the way up the other side of Greensboro, 25 minutes from here. But yes… I’ve been smelling smoke all morning. I figured one of the neighbors was burning garbage or brush today. It’s a bit excessive for that, and my asthma’s actually kicked up for the first time in many months.
Turns out this isn’t normal smoke. It’s coming off the wildfires in Georgia and Florida. Apparently the wind’s carrying the smoke northward. It’s so severe in some areas close by that 911 has been inundated with calls from concerned citizens.
And now there’s another fire in NJ - I have a feeling it’s going to be a long summer.
Pray for rain.
And please, please, please be careful with anything that might start a fire - don’t toss cigarette butts out your car window. If it’s dry, don’t burn brush or garbage (If you’re local, stop and ask Steve or one of the guys at the fire station if it’s safe!). Don’t leave a campfire unattended, and have plenty of water nearby to put it completely out.
