Idiotic laws

FoxNews.com has a story this morning about a woman in Pennsylvania who was initially charged with “abuse of a corpse” after someone reported that she had a dead baby in her freezer.

No one knows for sure yet if said baby was born alive, or if the mom had a miscarriage or even a late-term (I’d assume) home abortion. It’s possible that the mom had a late-late term miscarriage and was so overcome with grief, she couldn’t deal. Of course, it’s also possible that the police have a murder on their hands.

The detective on the case said,

But later, Lt. Daniel Herrmann said the abuse of a corpse charge applies only to human beings. Under the law, he said, a fetus is not considered a human being.

Now, I know that the cops and DA’s are generally limited to what the law provides for.

Well now. What do lawmakers think that is?

The tipster did not call to report that this woman had a dead DOG in her freezer. Nor did she report a deceased cat, whale, or monkey.

The call was to report a dead BABY.

Babies aren’t “something else”before birth, and somehow magickally become human when they’re born alive. It’s not like they’re inanimate in the womb and only become “alive” once they’re beyond the birth canal.

Laws like this were only invented to gloss over the fact that abortion stops a beating heart.

If someone were to do to an outside-the-womb baby, what happens during an abortion – they’d be villified by the public and media, and quite possibly get the death penalty.

I’m linking to a secondary source to illustrate a point: The New York Online Access to Health (NOAH) has a page detailing many links related to abortion. Click on the one that says “For Teens” and note that it’s written “By Girls – For Girls”. Abortion is achieved in one of several ways:

  • destroying the baby’s home environment to the point he cannot live (the so-called “Day After” pill is one that does this)
  • sucking the child up in a syringe or machine
  • Poisoning the baby with chemicals, then extricating her and throwing her away
  • Dilating the cervix, pulling the baby partly out, and then using suction to remove the baby’s brain

Can you imagine what would happen if someone brought a baby home from the hospital, laid it in its crib, and then released cockroach bombs all over the house… causing the child to die? There would be outrage. Or if someone tossed their baby into a wood chipper? Drowned them in the bathtub? Or how about if they pierced a hole in the back of their skull and sucked out the baby’s brains?

Think about it.

I know I’ve gotten a long way from my original outrage at the policeman’s comments. But I want to add something else.

Nineteen years ago, I was raped. I started having odd symptoms a couple of weeks later. I’d been taught in school that if you had problems, you should go to Planned Parenthood. I tearfully told my story to the worker assigned to me. She told me, “I’m scheduling you for an abortion. You cannot have the product of a rape in your life. You HAVE to do this.” I didn’t know the Lord at the time… was a long ways from it!… yet I believe that He led me to a Birthright center, where I was told that I didn’t HAVE to do anything. They lovingly encouraged me to give the baby up for adoption, or even keep the child. They assured me that I’d love him regardless of the circumstances. You know what? They were right. I refused to have an abortion, and decided that I would keep the baby… who is now 18 and enjoying life.

The whole argument of “abortion in cases of rape or incest” doesn’t fly with me – I understand the pain and grief and the sense of being trapped. If someone finds themselves in that position, they really only have three alternatives: abortion, keeping the baby, or placing it for adoption. Somehow killing the baby makes more sense to some folks. It’s not nearly so big of a deal as spending nine months carrying the child, giving birth, and allowing the baby to live – in or out of the mother’s life. Yes, babies complicate things. They also make life wonderful.

If you’re in this position – contemplating abortion (for any reason) – I’ll help you find a loving home for your baby, or share the things I did to be able to keep my son. Choose life, not death.
