Plain ol' coffee is pretty good at Sbux... come Christmas, do try their Christmas Blend. IMHO it's the best!!

Things are pretty fantastic--thanks! I've done two well-received conference papers, one of my profs wants to talk about turning another paper into a chapter in someone's book, the school offered me two TAships and enough funding so that Will and I can live comfortably next year, and best of all, I finally handed in the final draft of that miserable wretched thesis last night.

You know, I've never had a plain old coffee at Starbucks; I go there for the drinks that folks up north laugh and roll their eyes at. And the Chantico, and those lovely little cookies they have at Christmastime. I guess I should try regular coffee sometime, but first I want to try the pomegranate, before it runs out. (I was a big fan even back when as far as I knew they were nutritionally neutral.) I wonder why they're discontinuing it, though, since it still seems to be all the rage...

Starbucks is an interesting place. Soulless - no. From what I've heard, they genuinely try to improve the lives of the people who grow the coffee.

I adore some of their coffees (Estima, Italian, Brazil, Christmas Blend = my faves) and abhor others (Terraza, Yukon = uck!) ... but everyone has their tastes. Some of the folks I work with can't stand the E, I, B, and CB but go ga-ga when we brew Terraza. :::shrugs:::

Their Pom?
I like pomegranate juice, and I really like the drink. What comes out of the container's not "juice" like you'd pour yourself to drink. It's thicker. Sbux corporate says that it's a mix of Pom, Peach, and other fruit juices. I'll check the label Monday.

Unfortunately, the pom is discontinued. My store still has some, and I guess stores are using up what's left. Call Sbux and tell them to start providing it again! (if enough people do, maybe they will!)

Hope all's well in your world!

Congrats on the job, Kathi! It sounds like a really fun gig.

I used to avoid Starbucks on the assumption that it was a soulless corporate money machine--ironically, after seeing a South Park episode aimed at defending Starbucks, because I figured the gentlemen did protest too much. But after reading more about the company, its values, and the things it does in the service of its values, I feel a lot better about supporting them. And the coffee is pretty good, although nothing beats Second Cup's Raspberry Chocolate Latte.

How is the pomegranate flavouring, by the way? I've tasted it botched so many times by other places that I'm a little shy of it.
