Big Brother Cometh (and his name is John Edwards)
Just caught this on FoxNews.com: Presidential candidate John Edwards wants to not only mandate so-called universal healthcare for all Americans, he wants to mandate that we all take part in it!
In other words, you won’t have medical rights any longer. “Preventative care” will no longer be an option, and if they find something the implication is that you won’t have a choice whether it gets treated or not.
““It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,” he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. “If you are going to be in the system, you can’t choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.”"
Now, I’m the sort of person that if I’m sick, I’ll go to the doctor. Every few years I’ll get a bit of preventative stuff done. I’ve had vaccinations and so have my children (tho if I could do it all over again, that might be different).
Now, I suppose he probably said this because of his wife’s condition (understandable) -
“He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat “the first trace of problem.”"
I understand his grief at his wife’s condition - but whether to get your chest squeezed off by a machine should be a “right to choose” sort of thing. It’s an xray, it has radiation; it also carries some risks (some sites, such as preventcancer.com, say the radiation risk is quite high, WebMD lists some other factors)
Deciding risk vs. benefit should be a personal or parental decision. NOT the government’s. Not John Edwards’.
