Found an intriguing blog just now…
As I muse what sort of church Level Cross might need… a different sort of church, one that reaches people that aren’t currently being reached… I’m contemplating all of the kids that I know who are probably, right now, drunk on cough syrup as they wait for their folks to get home from work. It’s Friday night so for half the town, it’s payday (the other half got paid last week, and many people squander it.) Lots of the ones who got paid this week will be up at Rider’s (the bar just over the county line); the ones who’re broke because they spent it all will be serving their kids beans - if they’ve got that much money. A lot of them will be “enjoying” heroin, meth, or crack. What else is there to do on a Friday night?
Driving through Level Cross you just don’t see it. Living in a “nicer” neighborhood, you miss it… if you don’t know it’s here it’s easy to pretend that it’s not happening. I thank God that He sees it and that He’s opened eyes of people in the community to it.
Ran across this blog right now and it’s given me some insight into ministry: http://mission.squarespace.com/ … two vastly different environments… but the same Lord and the same vision for hurting people.
