I know Him better than I know myself, my husband, my children...

Well, the word "cult" really gets mis-applied all over the place. IMHO neither Catholicism nor the LDS religion meets the standard of "cult" (the latter is closer, "perhaps").

That said, one can be a heretic and go to hell, never having been a cultist.

The central question revolves around what the Bible says about Jesus Christ and what people therefore believe about Him... at least SOME Catholics (um... like SOME Baptists and SOME Pentecostals) are indeed followers of Jesus Christ. I know some mighty fine Catholics who I believe are going to heaven, and some mighty fine Baptists who I believe are going to hell. (why? salvation.)

No Mormon can claim to follow Jesus because although they say the follow the Jesus of the Bible, their image of Him is vastly different from the Biblical image. They cannot know Jesus as their Savior because they don't know Jesus! It would be like me knowing you as my best friend. I've never met you, don't know what you look like even, and am only guessing at where you live based on something you said - so for me to claim privilege of Best Friend based on that would be an awfully big assumption... KWIM? (not a very good analogy: only half a cup of coffee - but you get it, right?)

This isn't a difference of opinion or translation (how evangelicals see Jesus, and how Mormons see Jesus) - theirs is a complete fabrication of something that's not even there (but is apparently subsequently added in the BoM).

Back to topic at hand, though...I have a big problem with a Mormon prez, yes... but I also have a big problem with a person who refuses to stand up and say to the American people, "This is what I believe and this is how my beliefs influence my life and my decisions."

If he'd stood up and outlined his beliefs, I still would not vote for him, but at least I could respect him as a man of faith and conviction.

Presently I have zero respect for the man for that reason, and don't expect to gain any in the near future. It's sad, really, that I've got more respect for Guiliani (pro-gay, pro-abortion, should've run as a democrat) than I do for Romney. :::shrugs:::

How ironic! A Catholic priest (someone who belongs to a CULT according to some Christians) giving his opinion about Mitt Romney's speech (someone who belongs to a CULT according to some [most?] Christians).
