Is God angry?
Posted by Kathi on May 15, 2008
Has anyone who feels that God is angry (with them, or in general) ever stopped to consider why He might be?
Wouldn’t you be a bit upset if someone shoved their image of you in a 6×9x2 inch box and slammed the lid shut, and then proceeded to ignore the REAL you?
Let your imagination wander…

“Has anyone who feels that God is angry (with them, or in general) ever stopped to consider why He might be?”
Because he has a temper? Because he sweats the small stuff? Because you can never please him no matter how hard you try?
You’re right! You can never please God, no matter how hard you try, because no matter what you’re a human and He’s God. You WILL fall short of His glory.
That’s precisely why Jesus came. So you can go on falling short of God’s glory, or you can accept the sacrifice of Jesus so that you can put on HIS glory!
“You’re right! You can never please God, no matter how hard you try, because no matter what you’re a human and He’s God. You WILL fall short of His glory.”
So why bother even trying? And who was talking about “glory” (whatever that means)? Why put on his “glory”?
A god you can’t please simply because you’re human. An angry god who sneers at his children’s attempts to please him. A god who kills when he’s angry.
Indeed…
(please do think about what you just said, and who’s been killed…)
I meant what I said ma’am.
I did too… God’s wrath on mankind – including you and me – is justified. However, because in His wrath He remembered mercy, He voluntarily took that wrath ON HIMSELF so that you would not have to bear it.
Unless of course you want to.
Abusive Husband: “I love my wife. I don’t want to hit her. If only she did what I said….”
Angry God: ” I love my children. I don’t want them to go to Hell. If only they did what I said…”
Mmmmmmm.
If that was really what God said, you might have a point. But it’s not. So why do you keep coming back to it?
To make your analogy (sort of, almost, not really) work, the angry husband would have to say, “I love my wife. I don’t want to hit her. If only she did what I said. Here, let me punch myself in the head..”
Angry God: “I love my children. I don’t want them to go to hell. If only they did what I said. But I have the solution – I’ll take the punishment for them, so that they don’t have to…”
“Angry God: “I love my children. I don’t want them to go to Hell. If only they did what I said”
“If that was really what God said, you might have a point. But it’s not.”
1. He doesn’t LOVE his children?
2. He wants them to go to Hell?
3. They won’t even if they don’t “do what he says”?
He might have used those exact words, but isn’t that the message?
The last sentence should read “He might NOT have used those exact words, but isn’t that the message?
Regarding the box question…
If a person repeatedly asked for my help and companionship, and I responded with something like, “Yeah, you just keep asking, you festering puddle of dog vomit, because I made laws against things like you…and I’ll have you know I sent the person I love most to die for you, freak, and he was worth an infinite number of your sorry carcasses,” then there’s only a certain extent to which I could expect that person to keep coming back for more. And if after some time had gone by and that person was happy with someone new, they had reason to ask me if I were interested in renewing the relationship and I maintained only a stony silence…then I think they’d be justified in using my image as a dartboard, let alone putting it in a box, and it would probably be in the interest of their sanity to ignore me as strenuously as possible.
