Zoo
On Saturday, we took three ladies from China to the NC Zoo in Asheboro for the day. These ladies are visiting for training at my husband’s workplace. Since they can’t drive in the US, they don’t have a car and would be cooped up in the hotel… so people are taking turns taking them sightseeing, shopping, etc.
Parts of the zoo (especially the N. American part) represented a funny cross-cultural time… they got to see animals they’d never seen before (like alligators and rattlesnakes) and I (ever the helpful tour guide) kept saying, “yep, we eat that… we eat that… we eat that…” (bear, rattlesnake, gator, goat, turtle, bison, elk, assorted fish, emu, ostrich, etc.) I did tell them that MOST Americans don’t… just Ken and I.
It was interesting… we’ve always thought that (authentic) Chinese food was a bit odd… here were these girls thinking that American food was downright weird! Who would eat an alligator? But they agreed that snake is good to eat…
