I think I’m going to have to have rules for comments

Hey y’all… I think it’s getting to where I need some rules for comments. I don’t want to hinder anyone from posting (even, or perhaps especially, if they have a different viewpoint)… but there’s been a few over the past few days that just blow me away.

So - here’s the first draft of the rules. Tell me what you think ~

#1 - no anonymous comments. You don’t have to use your real name (You can be Captain Kirk for all I care) but please do use a valid email address, which will not be published. Trust me, if you comment here, I know who you really are and I could, if I wanted to, report you to your ISP.

#2 - do not be abusive. Please - disagree freely - but do not speak viciously or venomously toward anyone for whom Christ died. I’ve allowed a few comments through on the Todd Bentley posts that I ordinarily wouldn’t, mostly because I wanted to expose the folly of the commenters… but as a general rule, I won’t.

#3 - Please do not drive-by comment for the sole purpose of linking back to your site. People who actually post something are welcome to link, but if you just put “I like that” and a link to your site, I’ll publish your linkless comment. :)  I generally don’t censor links unless they look sleazy or spammy. Just because it’s a biz site doesn’t necessarily make it spam. If you’re in doubt if your link is ok, just ask.

#4 - This is a blog. This is my blog. This is ONLY a blog. I fear for the lives and relationships of a couple of my commenters… especially since I’ve seen them posting with equal volume and venom on other blogs. Yikes. I’m not putting a stop to it now, but I reserve the right in the future.

Thoughts? Anything there that anyone can’t live with? Have I left anything out?

    Kathi,

First time poster, long time reader here. You have every right to publish rules for commenting on your blog. While I commend you for allowing abusive or derogatory posts in the past, I do think you are a better woman than I am!!! It’s all about respect… whether someone is a believer or not… we should all respect everyone’s opinion.

I enjoy your blog and look forward to reading it.
