OK so why is it…
I noted this more than once when I was at ExWitch - why is it that out of all of the comments and commenters, the ones I have to censor are from people calling themselves Christians?
[and everyone WILL note that I’m perfectly agreeable with folks who disagree with my opinions on things. I’m only giving the boot to the absolutely irascible.
Can anyone answer that?
Eeesh.

Dunno, Kathi, but I think you had to do it on this occasion.
I got told today ‘you are old and a very powerful witch.’ The irony was it was on a Christian forum talking about discernment

Are they people you know?
On youtube, a lot of people will pose as Christians and leave comments trying to make Christians look hateful and ridiculous…
If you know them, well… it’s unfortunate, but, many Christians don’t walk the walk (or talk the talk for that matter) other than on Sundays.

Hello, Kathi. You are a patient person. I’ve noticed that.
But to answer your question. Much of has to do with the essential characteristic of Internet communications: it lacks any flesh-and-blood face-to-face social milieu or setting. (Some people compare this to the distinction of “cyberspace” vs. “meatspace”.) Because of this some people will say rude things in comment boxes they would never say to someone in person, least of all to people they hardly know. In other words, there is no social feedback of human interaction involved. Someone who is obnoxious will find the Internet the perfect place to spread his obnoxiousness all over the world, without experiencing any consequences for it. Thus they go from blog to blog attempting to show the world their superiority. And there are some people who simply get perverse pleasure from being offensive and trying to entice a reactio from others, which is why such persons who engage in this behavior are called “trolls,” who are not really trying to accomplish anything worthwhile.
Of course, there are many other factors that contribute to the problem you observed, and I guess one could write a lengthy dissertation about them. But I think this one factor is very important.

Hi Kathi, just popping in to say hello! So sorry to read about this, but I do understand. “Stop in” when you get a chance.
Blessings,
Jen

No offense Aly, but a small correction “on Sundays” should be “on Sundays during church”. x.x
Unfortunately my least favorite day of the week to work is Sunday, due to “Christians”.

Barbara Grizzutti-Harrison had some name for it, that I’ve forgotten. She says folks have to struggle with something, and when your religion answers the big questions for you, you quibble over the small ones instead. And some people are less adept at quibbling nicely than others.
