Car Wreck Yesterday

If you were following my tweets, you already know that Ken and I were in a car wreck yesterday. Both of us are hurting, but no blood or broken bones.

I’m hoping that this post even makes sense. Frances and Jules can tell you that flexeril makes me loopy and I probably shouldn’t be online :)

We left our favorite breakfast stop and went to buy gas. We were chattering happily about whether we should go to the street fair in Asheboro, or wait until Sunday to go. Red light, so we stopped behind two other cars and waited. All of a sudden I heard tires squealing. Then, WHAM!

I was leaning forward just before it happened. Can’t remember for the life of me why!! But because I was, I hit my head on the visor, and my neck really hurt, and so did my head. Ken seemed all right at first but as the adrenaline wore off, he went and sat down in the grass. That was so out of character for him (like, he would NEVER EVER do that!!), I had the ambulance guy check him out. Next thing I knew, we were both strapped to backboards with neck collars on. Took my pain through the roof. I also felt (and still feel) like I’m falling. It’s the strangest sensation and very terrifying. They never told me what causes that - I’ll have to see my doc tomorrow, I guess.

It took a couple hours for the hospital to process us, get x-rays, etc. There was a sweet lady named Miriam who said she was a patient representative. She ferried messages back and forth between Ken and I, and helped me call the neighbor to arrange for the dogs to be taken out. Miriam, I doubt you’ll ever read this - but I want to publicly thank you!!

So anyways - no broken bones - just a lot of ligament and muscle strain. Prescription is cyclobenzaprine and loracets for a few days. Rest followed by resumed activity. Not that I ever want to move again .

The van might be repairable - it depends on what they find underneath. It likely needs the back hatchback door and rear bumper replaced completely - but the way he hit, there might be frame issues too. :( Plus the exhaust rattles and the transmission feels funny, like it’s not shifting right. We’ll see - the ins claim has been filed and they’ll call tomorrow or the next day to come and see it.

I’m about to sign off because it’s hurting too much to sit, even in bed… need to lay down a while. :(
