Sears has gotten lay-away back.
I nearly cried when Wal-Mart did away with their lay-away department. Not being “rich folks” and not wanting to put Christmas or large purchases on credit, we’ve used lay-away many times and think it’s a wonderful idea.
Now that the economy is in a crunch, more retailers are bringing back the concept. Sears is one. Check this out: Sears Layaway
All you do is put 15-20% down (in cash), pay a $5 fee, and then make no-interest payments. You have to pay in full by 12/23 (by cash, check, or credit card).
There are a few items that can’t be put on layaway, like home appliances, computers, and anything flammable (like camping fuel), as well as things like earlybird specials and certain sale items, so be sure to check out the requirements.
Ken and I were discussing this morning that it’s time to update our wardrobe again. Every couple of years, we set a certain $ amount per person so they can go clothes shopping as Christmas. Usually we go to Belks, which has awesome sales this time of year. However we might just go to Sears this year. If we put the clothes on lay-away and spread the cost out over a few paychecks, we’ll have less pinch when we’re buying the kids’ presents.
Ken definitely needs new shirts - he forgets to change before going out to do yard work and gets red dirt on them. Stuff is about impossible to get out! He’s also torn a couple pairs of pants because there’s a sharp plastic dibbit in his car and if he forgets as he gets in and out, it catches.
I need a good pantsuit. Most of the time in church, I just wear jeans - but if I’m going to be meeting with folks from the school and community there will be times that I need to look professional. I’m thinking a pantsuit in slimming black…
Ken and I will probably go shopping one day this week
