Some questions asked in comments to previous posts will get answered there – others, I’ll answer in a new post because the commenting system can be so dratted cumbersome at times.
Cat had asked about relevant Scripture regarding abortion. There’s quite a few that directly or indirectly say that killing an unborn baby is murder and is in opposition to God’s plan.
Indirect, but foundational, is Genesis 1:27:
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
When God set about creating people, He made them in His own image. We’re made to be like God!
Then He breathed His own breath into them (Genesis 2:7):
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Not only did God create the first man and woman… He creates all (Psalm 139:13-16):
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
This implies not only the creation of the physical body, but the creation of the soul as well.
God spoke to Jeremiah (1:5):
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
And He also told him that there’s a plan and purpose for our lives (Jer. 29:11)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
There’s also great evidence that a regular ol’ guy, John the Baptist, had personhood prior to birth. For example, when Mary (pregnant with Jesus) and Elizabeth met up, the baby John leaped in Elizabeth’s womb. Luke 1:41-44. John was filled with the Holy Ghost prior to birth (Luke 1:15). Can a blob of tissue, a non-entity, be Spirit-filled?
There’s a great site with more Scripture talking about murder, unrepentant murderers going to hell, how children are a blessing from God, how children are to be treated, etc. here: http://www.crusadeforlife.org/prolife_scriptures.htm
Hope this answers some questions
